Family Missions Trip to Appalachian Region

Date: July 13-19, 2014

The Cost: $300

The Need: The beautiful area around Cleveland, TN in the foothills of Appalachia, is among the nation’s most impoverished.

  • 96% of children receive free or reduced price meals in public schools.
  • Only 1 in 4 families have a male head of household.
  • Only 56% of adults have completed high school.
  • In the tornadoes of April 2011, 500 homes were destroyed and more than 1,000 homes were damaged.

The Ministry: The goal is to share Christ’s love with others using these tools:

  • Home repair including roofs, carpentry, painting, wheelchair ramps, landscaping, some interior work
  • Evangelistic block parties
  • Backyard Bible clubs/community-wide VBS
  • Sports clinics/camps
  • Ministry to Assisted living/nursing homes
  • Hospitality/evangelism through church canvassing projects (giving out free light bulbs, smoke alarm batteries, etc.)

Who Can Go?: This trip is for children ages 10 and up and adults. We hope that many parents will join their children and make this a family missions trip, but individuals are welcome also!

Partner in ministry: Ocoee Outreach, a ministry of Bradley Baptist Association of Cleveland, TN, is also supported by the North American Mission Board and the Tennessee Baptist Convention.
