Our Children's Ministry partners with parents to bring children into a genuine, active and growing relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
All of our children's programs are gospel-centered, biblically faithful, kid-friendly, safe and fun! Activities, lessons and curriculum are carefully planned to teach children in a way that is fun and age appropriate. We want kids to beg their parents to take them to church!
The following are offered on Sunday mornings:
The Nursery classes provide a safe and loving environment for babies and toddlers. The children experience songs, playtime and the attentive love of dedicated volunteers.
Preschoolers participate in carefully planned Bible lessons, arts, crafts and games. The teachers lead age-specific Bible studies that help children understand God's love.
Elementary school aged children continue to experience fun games and hands on activities as well as Bible stories and teachings. It's a great place for them to start or continue their spiritual journey. They'll also make many new friends.
The school year is not complete without involvement in the Wednesday programs for children through Music and Missions beginning at 5:30 p.m.
An excellent age-graded (age 3 - grade 6) choir program nurtures the children's faith while developing their music skills. Music education is followed by missions education classes.

Mission Friends provides children, 3 years old-kindergarten, with the building blocks of faith, as well as a basic awareness of God’s love for all people. Children learn about missionaries serving others near and far, and they also have the opportunity to participate in hands-on mission projects. It’s never too early to engage in missions! Mission Friends meet in the Preschool Building Age 3 is in room 113, 4 years olds are in Room 115 and 5 year olds are in Room 117. For more information, contact Missions Friends Director, Celia Stewart (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Girls in Action (GAs) is a missions discipleship organization for first-sixth grade girls. Through GAs, girls learn about, pray for, give to, and do missions work. As an added bonus, GAs is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and have a lot of fun! GAs are frequently spotted in the community visiting local retirement homes, the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, and homebound friends.
GA Winter Weekend is a time for the Girls in Action to get together and go to Camp Whispering Pines in Citronelle. In addition to services with the camp missionary, the girls get to participate in fun activities such as zip lining, playing paint ball, hayrides, and meeting GAs from other churches. The girls in cabins, and all meals are cooked at the camp.
Royal Ambassadors (RAs) is a missions discipleship organization for boys in grades 1-6. Through hands-on activities that encourage spiritual growth, games and sports, and mentoring relationships with RA leaders, RA members become a faith-based brotherhood.
RAs also have the opportunity to engage in several hands-on missions projects throughout the year.
The RA Campout is one of the most anticipated events of the year for the boys of SHBC! We travel to Camp Whispering Pines in Citronelle where we pitch our tents to sleep in for the night.
