Classes taught by Lisa Rush focus on increasing overall body strength and flexibility and improving range of motion and balance. Balls, bands, and weights are used to work towards the goal of maintaining and increasing functional capacity, mobility, and independence. Seated and standing exercises are included. Join us as we work towards making our bodies stronger and better able to complete tasks that the Lord has set out for us to accomplish!
Lisa has been working in the fitness/wellness classes for 20 years. After attending St. Paul’s Episcopal School, she graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN with a double major in Psychology and Human and Organizational Development. Competing in the SEC on a track and cross country scholarship at Vanderbilt, Lisa learned the great importance of health, nutrition and maintaining fitness levels.
While finishing her Master’s Degree from the University of South Alabama in Exercise Technology, she worked as a Health Education Assistant and Assistant Cross Country Coach at Spring Hill College. In addition to her work at Spring Hill, Lisa also developed and led wellness programs for St. Paul's students, faculty, and staff. After school hours, she assisted with the track and cross country teams.
Wanting to expand her experience in wellness and fitness, Lisa took a position at the Mary Abbie Berg Senior Center (Via! Solutions) as the Wellness Coordinator. At Via!, she developed wellness and fitness programs for the center as well as for Mobile Housing Board sites in Mobile.
She currently spends a lot of time raising kids but with her fitness certification through the American Council on Exercise, she also works part-time teaching senior adult balance and fitness classes at Mobile Housing Board sites and at Somerby of Mobile retirement housing. Lisa also coaches the track and cross country teams at Covenant Christian School.
