Spring Hill Baptist is proud of its heritage of faith. The Church was founded in 1949 and God has blessed us richly since that time. In 2009, we celebrated our 60th Anniversary. To mark that significant occasion, a series of six articles was published recounting some of the highlights of those 60 years. You may find the interesting and sometimes “tongue-in-cheek” articles entertaining.
Chapter 1: Beginnings
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the community of Spring Hill was a popular weekend destination for residents of downtown Mobile, seven miles away.
Chapter 2: Baby Steps
On that joyous day, October 16, 1949, Spring Hill Baptist Church was officially organized and dedicated to the service of God. Present in the congregation on that day, as a visitor, was the Reverend Norman W. Clapp, who was called one year later to be the first pastor.
Chapter 3: Growing Pains
In October 1950, Spring Hill Baptist Church joyously celebrated its first anniversary. Much had happened in a year.
Chapter 4: Changes
The 1960’s brought many changes to our country and to Spring Hill Baptist Church.
Chapter 5: Sanctuary
On the church’s Silver Anniversary in 1974, it authorized the largest construction project in its history – a new sanctuary.
Chapter 6: Staying the Course
Our beautiful new sanctuary may have been dedicated on September 11, 1977, but it was baptized on September 12, 1979 by an unwelcome visitor named Frederic.
